Orlando Theatre Project to End Its Run

ORLANDO, Fla. – After 23 years as an Actors’ Equity Association theatre bringing the finest professional theatre to audiences in Central Florida, Orlando Theatre Project has made the difficult decision to close the curtain and suspend operations. OTP’s 2009-2010 season – what would have been its 24th – will not be presented as announced

While OTP’s recent “Cash & Cabaret” fundraiser was a rousing success, that success has not been matched in the grantswriting and corporate sponsor arenas. Several alternate season scenarios were discussed and budgets were re-worked, but it was determined that the only way OTP could mount their 2009-2010 season without corporate or foundation support was to obtain a substantial loan or line of credit. Already carrying some debt, and with limited resources for more aggressive fundraising, the company felt it would not be prudent to take on an additional financial obligation. With the agreement of its Advisory Board and Resident Artists, Orlando Theatre Project decided, instead, to suspend operations.

The company intends to participate in Playfest! in April and to support one of its members, Richard Width, in his one-man show at the Orlando Fringe in May. OTP also hopes to produce one final show in January, provided adequate funds can be found. All other obligations are being handled on a case-by-case basis. If you would like to help Orlando Theatre Project present its final show and close out its final season, please visit www.otp.org or donate directly to OTP’s PayPal page at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=5383923.

Orlando Theatre Project is grateful to its Company, Advisory Board, donors, volunteers, partners and sponsors, particularly Lowndes Drosdick Doster Kantor & Reed and Orlando Shakespeare Theater.

Orlando Theatre Project is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded in part by United Arts of Central Florida and by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The mission of the Orlando Theatre Project is to create quality professional theatre to engage, enrich, entertain and educate the Central Florida community.
